Personal History
Dr. Cotter was born in Baltimore, MD and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama where he was elected to many honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa.
He then attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and graduated as Valedictorian. From Mobile he traveled to Missouri and completed his residency in Therapeutic Radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. While there he was awarded an American Cancer Society Fellowship.
Dr. Cotter started practice in 1984. Dr. Cotter has served as a member of the American College of Radiation Oncology Board of Chancellors, is the past chairman of its standards committee and is currently director of its international practice accreditation program. Additionally, he serves as a delegate to the American Medical Association for the American College of Radiology. He has been president of the Alabama Society of Radiation Oncology and was the first physician in our area to become a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Cotter is certified by the American Board of Radiology. His areas of interest are Brachytherapy (radiation therapy implants), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS).
