Pyeloplasty is a procedure which removes an obstruction between the kidney and the ureter which takes urine from the kidney to the bladder. In nearly all cases, the goal of surgery is to relieve a uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. This is most commonly identified and repaired in children. At times, this may not be diagnosed until adulthood. If the blockage is significant, it may require surgical repair. It may be repaired with open, laparoscopic or robotic techniques.
